Shared meals
How to find people to share hotpot, dim sum or Korean BBQ
By ToShareAMeal ·
Short answer
To share hotpot, dim sum or Korean BBQ you need a small committed group on one date. On ToShareAMeal you plant a Meal Seed for that specific meal — venue or neighbourhood, date, table size — and other diners take the seats with “+ Me too” until enough seats are taken for that table size.
Why these meals are group meals
Hotpot, dim sum, Korean BBQ, tapas and mezze are all built around a shared surface: one broth, one grill, one rotating set of dishes. Ordering for one gets you a fraction of the experience at close to the same effort.
The constraint is real: many of these restaurants are genuinely better with four people than with two, and the menu often assumes it.
Set the table up so it fills
Tables fill when the proposal is concrete and the ask is small. Vague plans attract vague interest.
- Name the cuisine in the title — people search for the meal, not the concept.
- Give a specific date and a time slot; “time to be decided” is allowed but fills slower.
- Choose a table size you would genuinely still enjoy — the minimum needed to go ahead follows from that size.
- Say what the spend looks like so nobody is surprised.
If the date is wrong, fork it
Forking creates a new table with the same idea at a different time. It is the polite alternative to asking a table of people to move for you, and both tables can fill independently.
Repeat tables and Circles
If a table works, Circles let a group keep dining together rather than starting from scratch every time. Shared Circles are free; personal Circles are part of the paid Circle+ plan.
